APPETITE SUPPRESSANTS

  • Phentermine (Adipex), Diethylpropion, and Phendimetrazine are the most commonly used FDA approved medications for short term use.  These are stimulants and have been shown to be some of the best for weight loss.

  • Qsymia (Phentermine-topiramate) is a combination of an anticonvulsant (topiramate) and a weight-loss drug (phentermine). It is the most effective weight loss drug available to date. It combines an adrenergic agonist with a neurostabilizer.  Possible side effects include increased heart rate and blood pressure, insomnia, constipation and nervousness. Topiramate increases the risk of birth defects.
